Development Coordinator
Reports to: Senior Development Director
Status: Full-time
Location: Baltimore, MD (hybrid as applicable)
The Baltimore Tree Trust (BTT), the leading urban forestry nonprofit organization in Baltimore City, seeks a full-time Development Coordinator to join its Remington-based team. Established in 2008, BTT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to enhance and protect Baltimore City’s urban tree canopy through strategic planting initiatives, broad-based engagement, and local workforce training. By engaging in diverse partnerships, leading community greening efforts, and creating public service job opportunities, BTT is committed to a vision of equitable access to the benefits of a robust urban nature for all the city’s residents.
Position Summary
The Development Coordinator is an entry-level fundraising role that supports Baltimore Tree Trust’s individual giving, donor stewardship, and development operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring donors feel appreciated, informed, and connected to the organization’s mission to expand Baltimore’s urban tree canopy.
Reporting to the Senior Development Director, the Development Coordinator supports day-to-day development activities, including gift processing and acknowledgment, donor communications, events, and database management. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, mission-driven professional interested in building a career in nonprofit fundraising.
Responsibilities
Gift Processing & Acknowledgment
- Process donations and ensure timely, accurate acknowledgment of all gifts.
- Prepare acknowledgment letters and emails, including personalized letters for leadership-level donors and special audiences, using established templates.
- Complete gift acknowledgments within two business days of posting.
- Update and maintain donor records, correspondence, and documentation in the CRM.
- Share relevant gift information (restrictions, tribute details, reporting needs) with appropriate staff.
- Assist with monthly reconciliation in collaboration with the Finance team.
Donor Stewardship & Communications Support
- Support donor stewardship efforts by assisting with email, mail, phone, and text communications.
Help prepare stewardship materials, impact updates, and meeting packets for donors, board members, and committees. - Assist with scheduling donor meetings and tracking follow-up tasks.
- Collaborate with Development and Communications staff to support fundraising campaigns and donor engagement activities.
- Provide administrative support to the Senior Development Director and CEO as needed.
Donor Recognition
- Maintain donor recognition records, including the Annual Report donor list and other recognition materials.
- Coordinate internal reviews to ensure donors are accurately and appropriately recognized.
- Track naming opportunities and maintain related documentation and data.
Events & Engagement
- Provide logistical support for donor engagement and fundraising events, including registration, attendee communications, and on-site staffing.
- Assist with event preparation, set-up, tear-down, and post-event follow-up.
- Support corporate sponsorship tracking and acknowledgments as needed.
- May assist with donor engagement through volunteer or community-based events.
Development Operations & Administration
- Generate routine reports on gifts, campaigns, and appeals.
- Maintain data integrity across the CRM and online giving platforms.
- Support direct mail and digital fundraising efforts, including list management, mail merges, and volunteer coordination.
- Maintain development materials and publications, ensuring they are organized and current.
- Research best practices in donor stewardship and fundraising operations.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Attributes
- 1–2 years of fundraising, nonprofit, administrative, or customer-facing experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Comfort communicating with donors, volunteers, or external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Google Drive and willingness to learn CRM systems (experience with Bloomerang a plus).
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Compensation
- Salary Range: $50,000-$55,000 commensurate with experience
- Full-time, exempt employee with some weekends or evening events required.

Outreach and Communications Coordinator
Reports To: Outreach Manager and Communications & Marketing Manager

Position Summary
The Outreach & Communications Coordinator will be a key support role within the organization, assisting both the Outreach Manager and Communications & Marketing Manager. This individual will help implement and support strategies to promote our mission, engage the community, and raise awareness about the importance of urban forestry. The role is dynamic, combining community outreach, administrative support, social media coordination, and event planning.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Outreach Support (60%)
- Support the development and execution of outreach strategies that educate residents and communities about BTT’s planting operations within priority neighborhoods.
- Assist with outreach initiatives and timelines developed by the Outreach Manager, including assisting with neighborhood door-knocking and attending community meetings to share upcoming projects.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align outreach processes with seasonal priorities.
- Attend weekly Outreach and Operations meetings to help with the planning of seasonal outreach campaigns and remain aware of neighborhood planting schedules.
- Support the department by attending community tabling engagements and city events.
Communications Support (20%)
- Provide support for the development and publication of social media campaigns, newsletters, and website blog posts with the aim of increasing followers and overall engagement.
- Provide support for the maintenance and updating of BTT’s website.
- Oversee the uploading and categorizing of photos and videos onto the shared drive.
- Update promotional materials, such as flyers, social graphics, and outreach materials, as needed for community canvassing and outreach use.
- Assist with maintaining the communications drive to streamline the collection and storage of communications assets.
Administrative & Operations Coordination (20%)
- Assist with the planning and implementation of fundraising events and volunteer programming.
- Assist with day-of operations for seasonal organizational events, including volunteer days, planting events, and neighborhood planting engagements.
- Help track and organize volunteer participation and follow up.
- Remain flexible to other duties as assigned that support BTT operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or currently pursuing a degree relating to communications design, marketing, environmental advocacy, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
- 1-2 years of experience in outreach or communications for non-profit organizations or similar small businesses.
- Baltimore City resident with an interest in urban forestry and greening initiatives.
- Familiarity with social media, Canva, and preference to individuals able to use the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, & Acrobat)
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including editing and proofreading.
- Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities/deadlines.
- Comfortable with field-based outreach, including door-knocking, tabling, and attending community events, sometimes outside of standard business hours.
- A valid driver’s license is preferred but not required.
Work Environment
The work environment for this coordinator role is dynamic and community-centered, blending office-based administrative responsibilities with frequent fieldwork in neighborhoods, schools, and community spaces. The position involves regular collaboration with multiple internal teams, active participation in outreach and planting events, and engagement with residents, volunteers, and partner organizations. It requires flexibility to accommodate seasonal priorities and occasional evening or weekend events, along with comfort working outdoors, attending meetings, and representing the organization in public-facing settings.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and comfortable working outdoors.
- Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
Compensation
$25/hour for 20-29 hours a week, with potential for additional hours depending on work needs, plus benefits

Neighborhood Forestry Technician I (NFT I)
Reports to: Senior Director of Neighborhood Forestry
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Location: Baltimore, MD (in-person)
We are currently looking to identify motivated, hard-working individuals to join our tree installation and tree care crews. Successful candidates will have a strong willingness to learn new professional skills while working outdoors, as well as an interest in creating positive environmental change in Baltimore City neighborhoods. Forestry Technicians can expect to receive on-the-job training and industry-recognized certifications, in addition to a wide range of educational and professional development opportunities.
What You’ll Do:
- Install container-grown, balled-and-burlap, and bare root tree specimens –
- Water, mulch, and prune young and mature trees alike
- Load, unload, and transport trees of various condition and size
- Safely operate power hand tools, saws, pruning loppers, etc.
- Assist in maintaining an inventory database and tracking system for all tree plantings
- Participate in workplace training events and occasionally oversee volunteers
- Assess trees for signs of common tree pests and health conditions
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
What We’re Looking For:
- At least 18 years of age
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn
- Physically able to stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Demonstrated ability to report for work regularly and punctually
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, or an ability to obtain one within 6 months, is preferred
- Other duties as assigned
𝗪𝗮𝗴𝗲:
$18.00-18.50/hour
Employees are eligible to receive performance bonuses, wage increases, and other benefits after a 30-day probationary period.

Monday – Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Hours subject to change seasonally. Occasional weekend and evening availability may be requested, but is not mandatory.
