What We Do

School Partnerships

A Greener Education

We are committed to making sure that neighborhoods have equal opportunities to get trees planted, while improving the existing canopy at schools through our partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools.

Through hands-on planting engagement, students are encouraged to connect with nature while learning the importance of urban forestry and actively participate in the greening of their communities. By planting trees at schools and engaging students in tree planting, care, and environmental education, we cultivate the next generation stewards who are deeply connected to their environment and empowered to protect it.

City Schools Engagements

Trees and green spaces are essential components to ensuring equitable developmental and academic achievement among all students. Since 2018, BTT has worked closely with Baltimore City Public Schools to provide campus trees, create plantable sites, and facilitate tree maintenance training for Grounds Shop personnel. These opportunities encourage students to learn basic tree science, tree care, and tree benefits, and how urban forestry can actively affect the environmental challenges facing our urban landscapes—all while enjoying the physical and mental health benefits trees can bring.

In-Classroom Learning

In addition to hands-on learning, BTT recognizes the necessity of child-centered environmental education to inspire Baltimore’s next generation of passionate and informed urban forest stewards. With the support of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), BTT has recently developed a series of lesson plans and classroom activities catered to Baltimore City Public Schools’ existing Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that can be accessed and used for free. These resources are designed to be utilized by either a BTT facilitator during a school planting project or an educator in their own classroom.
